When off-the-shelf isn't the answer

Bespoke exists for rooms that standard cabinets can't serve and owners who want furniture, not flat-pack. What the money buys

£12,000 to £30,000 buys in-frame cabinetry made in a workshop rather than a factory: solid tulipwood or oak frames, dovetailed drawer boxes, hand-painted finishes in any colour, and internals designed around your actual possessions, the pan drawer sized for your pans, the spice rack where your hand falls. Stone worktops, usually quartz or granite, are templated to the finished cabinets. Appliances are specced openly, with honest advice on where premium brands earn their premium and where they don't.

The process

Design consultation and measured survey first, then drawn plans and an itemised specification. A deposit commissions the build; the workshop phase runs eight to fourteen weeks; installation takes two to three weeks including worktop templating and hand-painted finishing on site. Progress payments are staged against visible milestones, never front-loaded, and the final payment follows the snag list, not precedes it.

Bespoke versus premium showroom

The honest comparison: a top-end showroom kitchen from a national brand costs similar money to local bespoke, and gives you factory cabinets with premium doors. Local bespoke gives you cabinets built for your room by the person who installs them. For standard rooms on standard budgets, supply-only plus a good fitter wins; for awkward rooms and once-in-a-house kitchens, bespoke is where the money stops being visible and starts being felt.
